Mechanical construction, service and design-build, from one New Hampshire contractor
Eckhardt & Johnson is a commercial and industrial mechanical contractor based in Hooksett, New Hampshire, founded in 1917. E&J builds mechanical systems, services them after turnover, and designs them when the owner wants one accountable partner. The same engineers, fabrication shop, controls team and service fleet sit behind all three.
Three ways to work with E&J
Most buildings need all three at some point. A system gets built, it gets serviced for years, and one day it gets replaced. E&J does each of them, and the handoff between them stays inside the company.
Mechanical construction
HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, insulation and controls on new construction, renovations, tenant fit-outs and plant replacements. Self-performed by E&J employees, as a subcontractor to general contractors and directly for owners.
- Eight self-performed services under one contract and one warranty
- Prefabrication in the Hooksett shop by certified welders
- ASSE 6010 medical gas installers for healthcare work
HVAC and plumbing service
More than 20 radio-dispatched trucks, technicians trained on current commercial HVAC and plumbing equipment, and 24-hour emergency support seven days a week. Preventative maintenance contracts written for the equipment you actually have, and temporary boilers, water heaters and A/C units when a system is down.
- HVAC and plumbing from the same dispatch desk
- Repair, replace or rethink, backed by in-house engineers
- Priority dispatch for maintenance contract customers
Design-build mechanical
Engineering, laser scanning, coordination, fabrication, installation and startup held inside one mechanical contractor. Fewer handoffs and one accountable partner from concept through service.
- PE-licensed engineers, in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts
- 3D laser scanning and mechanical and plumbing BIM coordination
- Commissioned and verified in-house by the team that built it
One company, through the life of the system
E&J brings as many critical capabilities in-house as it can, and can enter at any point and stay through the life of the system. The engineer who designs the plant, the welder who prefabricates it, the mechanic who sets it and the technician who services it all answer to the same name.

Questions we hear first
Are you a service company or a construction company?
Both, and the same company. E&J builds mechanical systems as a contractor and services them afterward with its own fleet. The service team has the drawings and controls documentation from the build.
Do you design the systems too?
Yes, for mechanical and plumbing. E&J's in-house licensed engineers design the systems on design-build projects, and E&J coordinates against the electrical and fire protection trades. E&J does not design electrical.
Do you service equipment you did not install?
Yes. E&J technicians service commercial HVAC and plumbing equipment regardless of who installed it.
Where do you work?
Across New Hampshire from the Hooksett shop, with most work in Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Portsmouth and the Seacoast, and the Lakes Region. See service areas
